Hi my name is Jody King and I’m a 3rd year student at the Manukau Institute of Technology, working towards my Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education). One of the courses I am involved in this semester is called People, Places, Things and Events which goes into detail how to foster children’s learning and development using technology. This assignment requires me to create a blog which shows how technology is used in my centre to develop children’s learning. I will be producing 5 reflective blog entries on how children use technology supported by photos. I will also be contributing to the course blog and five student’s blogs.

Hope you all enjoy my blog.

  2. Hey Jody
Great blog. I think its smashing that the children have access to the ICT equipment. It would be interesting to know what percentage of early childhood centres in NZ, have this available for their children’s use. The acquisition of knowledge is phenomenal. Personally, I have not come across any of the centres I have worked or had experience in (5) that have had these items of technology available for children’s use. Other learning that stood out for me in your blog included literacy attainment/ development, the children’s comprehension of the abilities of computer and printer e.g. “click and make it big”, “make it come out of here” and the cutting and pasting. I also liked how the children were able to maintain some autonomy when choosing their favourite butterflies to print.
